Red Jacket Orchards Fruit Juice Review & Giveaway

 

My children and I have always loved juice. Never have I had issues trying to get my children to drink fruit juice. Because my daughter has digestive issues I find that certain juices help her to be more regular and so that is probably why my children tend to drink more juice than milk. Milk can be binding...fruit juice is not. When I go grocery shopping, I love to look for the all-natural juices for them. If they are going to be drinking juice, then it better be either organic or natural. Yes, I know that most juice is full of sugar but I try to make sure that the children are only drinking juice once or twice a day. In between, they drink water. Honestly, water is probably better for them in the whole scheme of things but juice is a very nice alternative.

Recently, I happened across a wonderful, family owned and operated company that specializes in making fresh, cold-pressed, unfiltered and all-natural fruit juices! Red Jacket Orchards is located right here in my home state of New York and has been in operation since 1917. Before I continue, here is a bit more on the history of this company...

In 1917, in Geneva, NY, the Brownlee family planted some of the same orchards that Red Jacket uses today. In the words of Fred Brownlee, “the land is fertile, the wind movement is good and prevents damaging frosts from hurting fruits.” In 1958, Joe & Emily Nicholson—owners of Nicholson’s Poultry Farm in Bethpage, NY—were forced to move their establishment to make way for an expressway. They then purchased Red Jacket Fruit Farms, located only 350 miles to their northwest, on land well known for its fruit production. They set up an improvised one-windowed shed to display their cornucopia of harvested fruits to passersby. They offered grapes, pears, raspberries, strawberries, and, of course, apples. This became the site of the original Red Jacket roadside stand. In 1968, Joe Nicholson, Sr. bought an old rack & cloth press and began to press cider in the barn. In 1972, with a two-year-old and a pair of two-week-old twins in tow, Joe Jr. and Marilyn Nicholson moved to the farm after pursuing careers elsewhere. In the ensuing years, they expanded into wholesale farm markets and expanded their retail location. In 1980, the present-day Red Jacket fruit outlet is built offering many more fruits and local farm goodies.

I always love reading the history behind family owned businesses...the stories are always so rich and bursting with information. It is very interesting to see how the business first began and to see the progression of where it is today. Obviously, Red Jacket Orchards has a unique and truly wonderful product if they are doing as well as they are today!

So, for this review I was sent 6 bottles of Red Jacket Orchards Fruit Juice to try and I was SO excited when my case of juice arrived. These juices came cold-packed and that told me one thing...they are FRESH. Immediately upon opening my shipping box, I popped them into the refrigerator so they would chill completely before tasting them. I had to tell my family to not drink them until I got a picture of them and it was VERY difficult to keep my hubby's hands off of them until I was ready to try them. :) For this review I was sent: Fuji Apple, Strawberry Apple, Raspberry Apple, Cranberry Apple, Blackcurrant Apple, and Tart Cherry Stomp.

Last night my daughter was up later than usual and so I thought it would be the perfect time to taste a few of these juices with her. She is my little helper when it comes to trying review products and she does an excellent job! :) The one thing I noticed right away is that the juice is thicker because it is unfiltered. This means that it is cloudy in appearance and not clear...which doesn't bother me a bit. I prefer a thicker juice because it means that it hasn't been strained and there are still a lot of nutrients left in the juice. 

I think my most favorite juice (they were all very good!) was the Strawberry Apple. I LOVE strawberry and this combination was lovely. Just enough sweetness combined with apple. My husband really liked this one too. 

Hannah preferred the Fuji Apple though, which was a bit suprising to me. I thought for sure she would like the strawberry better. As you can see above, she really enjoyed tasting this juice. I feel good giving it to her too because I know it is actually good for her and will not give her "empty" nutrients. 

There is honestly so much I could say about this company...if you check out their website, there is so much more to see and I just LOVE the animation and detail on the site. It is really easy to navigate through and they give very thorough explanations on how they do the cold-pressed process and also how they preserve the nutrients in each bottle of juice. After tasting these amazing juices from Red Jacket Orchards, I think it will be difficult to truly appreciate any other store-bought brand of juice. There is just nothing like the flavor of "Fresh"!
