Sugar & Spice Market Gluten Free Baking Mixes Review & Giveaway

We here in our home do not have any major food allergies...yet. I know plenty of people who do though and it is so tough for them to find foods that are safe for their families to eat. It is so hard to have people over for dinner who have dietary restrictions because I am so unfamiliar with how to cook for them and the last thing I want to do is make them sick. I think the biggest dietary restriction I have heard of is dairy and gluten intolerance. Gluten is found in many different foods and can be dangerous for some to eat. Alot of people don't know that they have a problem with gluten and their symptoms are misdiagnosed, unfortunately. BUT, for those who are properly diagnosed it means they are in for a long road of experimenting with recipes, finding new ideas and ingredients and totally re-learning how they need to eat. This can be very difficult or it can be very easy...depending on where you go to look for help. 

Today, I am going to let you in on a little secret. Did you know that you can buy gluten-free baking mixes? I mean the chocolate cake, brownies, cookies and all things sweet?!? YES! You can! I was so excited when I came across Sugar & Spice Market because they carry gluten free baking mixes. Before I continue though, here is a bit more about their story...

Now I know several people who are on gluten free diets and have tasted the food they prepare. Honestly, it is very good. I have also heard horror stories about how nasty gluten free food can taste and that is not something I ever want anyone to experience! I was very excited about the opportunity to review some of Sugar & Spice Market's mixes especially because I want to share them with my friends who are gluten free!

So, for this review I was sent four baking mixes from Sugar & Spice Market. I was sent: Chocolate Cake, Brownies, Sugar Cookies and Pancake/Waffle Mix. Oh my...chocolate cake!?! Seemed too good to be true. :)

I love to fix pancakes for my children. Pancakes make a fantastic and different option for lunch time and my children are HUGE fans. They especially LOVE chocolate chip pancakes so the Pancake/Waffle Mix was the first product I tried! I really noticed no difference in these pancakes as opposed to regular pancake mix. I noticed the dry mix itself needed to be stirred very gently because it was flying all over the kitchen otherwise...ha ha. I had to be careful there...the mix is really fine in texture.

When my pancakes were done I was floored at how yummy they were. They tasted slightly different from what I am used to when it comes to pancakes but they were still amazingly tasty. My children DEVOURED them and  I still have mix left over for another batch. The package comes with a resealable top so that makes it super easy to close and store.

Next, I tried out the Sugar Cookie Mix. Who doesn't love a good cookie now and then, huh? My children and husband are big cookie eaters and so I always try to have some on hand. These sugar cookies are simple to make, all you add is a few ingredients (butter, vanilla flavoring and water), mix and then drop onto your cookie sheets.

Then, you put them in the oven, turn on the oven and watch them bake...like this little guy is doing. My children LOVE to watch things baking in the oven. I love it! :)

Once the cookies are slightly browned on the bottoms, they come out of the oven and you can sprinkle sugar on the tops of them while they are still warm. I did this and they looked so lovely!!

Last but not least, try to keep your children's hands off them until they are cooled...then, you can let them try them! My children could not wait to try these Sugar Cookies! The package I made yielded 31 cookies and somehow, we ate all but 4 on the day they were made. I think I have mice...hmmmmmmmm...what do YOU think? LOL!

I am really looking forward to trying the other two mixes and am saving them for when I have my friends over who are on gluten free diets. I want to impress them with my baking abilities...ha ha! I think I may make them and take them to church for people there to try as well. I think people will be surprised to find out that they are gluten free desserts!!
